This company provides services to the construction industry. We worked with the Managing Director 5 years ago to re-design roles and accountabilities across the business, allowing him to spend more time directing the business. Since then, they have grown rapidly.

 

He approached us this time to support a reworking of his business plan. He is a good strategist with excellent knowledge of his market and customers but needed to navigate some hurdles and make big decisions in order to execute the plan.

 

What we did
Through discussions we first agreed on the desired outcomes of the facilitation. We designed a series of 4 facilitated sessions to:

 

  • Help him work through some of the personal/ business dilemmas he was facing.
  • Tap into his knowledge and consider growth options at his disposal.
  • Challenge his thinking to identify the gaps in his assumptions and planning.
  • Work out how to manage changes with business performance and customer satisfaction in mind.
  • To explore immediate challenges and mitigating actions.
  • Support him with what to do next.

 

Outcomes
Among the outcomes so far, we have seen:

 

  • The MD feels more in control of his plan.
  • The MD has a great sense of personal confidence and commitment to the plan.
  • The MD feels more comfortable to make decisions.
  • An assessment of the costs and impacts of the plan for the business.
  • A 3-year timeline and implementation plan with key milestones and decision points.
  • Clarity about what to communicate to who and when.
